India’s Shipping Ministry is reporting that a merchant ship’s crew of 21 are safe after being hijacked off of Nigeria’s coast. Luckily, naval forces were nearby to rescue them.
The crew onboard the Norwegian-flagged MV Spar Rigel consisted of 1 Ukrainian member and 20 Indian members. They all locked themselves in the ship’s saferoom upon the initial pirate attack earlier in the week and waited for help to arrive.
No further details are available at this time.
