Joint Call for Applications to Test Proposed Ballast Water Treatment Systems

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Goal of collaborative approach is to further the efficient and effective transition of treatments from concept and prototype to certification of BWT systems.

With this notice, the two entities operating IMO-consistent ballast treatment system test centers in the United States - the Maritime Environmental Resource Center (MERC) in the Chesapeake Bay and the Great Ships Initiative (GSI) in the Great Lakes region - announce their intent to offer qualified and interested applicants to either program consideration for research services available at MERC and/or GSI during calendar year 2009.

The goal of this collaborative approach is to further the efficient and effective transition of treatments from concept and prototype to certification and routine operational use through combining and coordinating complementary resources and expertise at the respective research sites. To apply for these combined research and independent evaluation services, please visit either www.maritime-enviro.org or www.greatshipsinitiative.org for details, deadlines and application forms.

Note: If you have an application pending to one or both of the collaborating entities (GSI or MERC) for research services in 2009, you do not need to reapply for consideration in response to this joint call.
